SCO Owns UNIX

Message ID: 393428 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: SCO OWNS UNIX SCO owns Unix, and more importantly, regardless of ownership, IBM is not supposed to reveal derivative works to outside world. AIX and Dynix are derivative works. IBM hasn't turned in all the AIX and Dynix code to SCO -- no AIX and only 2 CD's of Dynix? that's a shame!! --, and is trying to evade SCO's inquiries about certain emails as well. IBM is hiding something. This Yahoo! SCOX Message Board post has been licensed for copying and distribution under the following license: CCL Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike v2.0.

Is Linux the worst operating system?

Message ID: 392789 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Is Linux the worst operating system? Is Linux the worst operating system ever to be produced by mankind? Quite possibly. Is it the most time-consuming one to use and to hack? Without a doubt. Does its users suffer from the worst kind of dependency entanglements? Yes, they do. One man called it a 'lifetime of dependency conflicts', and that man is not far wrong. Tightly binding things like Torvalds is fond of doing is long recongnized as the worst thing you can do in software development. Andy Tannenbaum told Linus Torvalds years ago that Torvalds' ideas on operating systems are outdated. Torvalds persisted nevertheless. A lot of Microsoft-hating Communism-loving Eurohackers joined hands with him to develop Linux into a semi-usable program. Andy Tannenbaum is a sensible man (despite his dissing of Dijkstra's banker's algorithm, I should add). For several years, he never bothered about developing a usable operating s

Windows life is good

Message ID: 392760 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Windows life is good I try and avoid storing large amounts of paper, by scanning all the stuff that I think I might need in future. A lot of that is sensitive information, and I used to encrypt it through loopback encryption when I was a Linux user. When I switched from Mandrake to Suse, the encrypted file became unmountable. Apparently, Suse doesn't support AES256 encryption for loopback devices, unless you fiddle with the kernel through outside patches. As anybody that used Linux for any length of time would tell you, applying outside patches to kernel is a really bad idea. You can no longer apply official Suse patches (including security patches, which are quite frequently issued, I might add) after that.  Is this brain-dead or what? You have this supposedly open system you are using to avoid the Microsoft "lock-in", and you are now a victim of your "distro" maker's lock-in. Linux life is like that. Each

Linux PC is a joke

Dell is just messing with the Linux Loons! There is an ad by IBEXPC on the next google search results page. Message ID: 392708 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Loons try in vain to hide my messages Loons have tried in vain to hide my Walmart message, because it conclusively shows Linux desktop is heading for the gutter. But I have used my superior intelligence to keep it visible. Notice that none of the fu**ers tried even to address the tumbling fortunes of Linux desktop. Just shut your eys tight. Message ID: 392676 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Far fewer Linux desktops at walmart.com A few months ago, one used to see several different Linux desktops at walmart.com. There used to be a menu on the left side of the screen that let you choose between Windows Computers, Linspire machines, Xandros PCs, Sun Java Desktops, and machines with no OS. That's all changed now. The # of Linux models is more than halved now compared to a year ago. I counted a total of 4 Linux models - 2 Linspire, 2 Xandros. According to archive.org, in March 2005, there were 10 Linux models. Linux is not conquering customers' minds and hearts, even when it is preloaded on a PC. What a surprise! There is only one of me - and I have been posting here for a long time. The facts have not and will not change. The only thing now, is when do the bills come due for the SCOX and their scheming buds? SCO Owns UNIX, SCO Owns IBM

Message ID: 391899 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: SCO OWNS UNIX, SCO OWNS IBM SCO owns Unix. Caldera owned Unix, according to its cofounder, Ransom Love. That makes SCO the owner of Unix now. SCO is all set to crush IBM in the lawsuit. If see this message briefly, and then it goes out of view, it's because the Linux supporters are deliberately giving it a low rating to make it invisible in the default view. Loon Panic

Message ID: 391432 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Loon Panic The news of SCO's appeal seems to have sent the Loons into a state of panic. They were seen reciting to each other all the reasons why SCO *should* lose in court. Actually, mutual Loon reassurance seems to be the primary function of this forum. You get scared, you let a fellow Loon reassure you that SCO has no chance. After you hear somebody tell you why McBride is going to jail, you are no longer afraid that SCO will win this lawsuit. Unfortunately for the Loons, reality is unaffected by their wishful thinking. I come here daily to point this out, despite strong objections from the Loons. The new message board format is going to make this more difficult for me. Several Thuggish Loons seem to be acting in concert to rate my messages low, so they will disappear from *everyone's* default view.  I will be sure to come back here to rub it in after SCO wins this case. SCO means business

Message ID: 391199 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: SCO means business This latest news about appeal ought to tell IBM and the Loons that SCO means business. It surprised even me, a staunch SCO supporter. I was under the impression things were tacked on to the lawsuit, and SCO will not mind too much to see them dismissed. But, not so. SCO is digging its heels in. Understandbly enough, Loons are very worried (which indicates IBM is very worried). Design of the Unix Operating System

Message ID: 391024 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Design of the Unix Operating System There is a book with the title "Design of the Unix Operating System" by Bach - a pretty good book by the way - that should make the Loons look silly for saying Unix is not an operating system. Where is the 'Design of the Linux Operating System' book? Oh, that's right. Linux is not designed. It is "grown". What is it, a plant? How many papers did Mr. Torvalds author through lo these many years of working on Linux? None. Zero. That's right. His motto seems to be 'Just Code Something'. No wonder Linux is a joke. UNIX *is* an operating system

Message ID: 391012 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: UNIX *is* an operating system Loon lies know no bounds. Now, Unix is not even an operating system. I guess the Loons don't think anything other than Linux is an operating system. It's pathetic, so many people telling so many lies, just to hold onto some code that may or may not benefit the good-for-nothing Lamex system. Unix is an operating system with plenty of IP in it, and SCO owns the said Unix. IBM is accused of stealing from that Unix, and putting that code in a particularly lame open source operating system. SCO owns UNIX

Message ID: 390918 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: SCO owns UNIX I have posted a link to Ransom Love's quote saying Caldera owned the Unix code. The Linux Loons have started the vicious spin cycle explaining how this doesn't matter, but they are dead wrong. Just because no single entity owns all the copyrights on Unix, it doesn't mean that if you lay your hands on that code, you can start using that with impunity, without the consent of anybody, and without paying anybody. When USL was licensing Unix to others, USL didn't own all the copyrights either. They still had the right to change any of the code, and to license use of that code to its clients. If somebody uses that code without permission, USL was still the entity that would sue that somebody. The Linux XP

Message ID: 390856 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: The Linux XP A good critique of Extreme Programming (XP) can be found in the "Extreme Programming Refactored" book. XP is supposed to be this new-fangled method of software development, where requirements are collected piece-meal, and programs are 'grown' as needs change rather than being designed. It is the choice method of the Lazy Coder. As can be expected when there is little design, the programs produced by XP tend to be rather shabby and unwieldy. XP is surving mostly by hype, just like Linux is. The Linux kernel coders have embraced XP as their development method. Linux is not designed, but is 'grown'. This is why the API's keep changing even across point releases. This, in turn, makes writing and maintaining device drivers for Linux a pain. This is why the device makers are not exactly rushing to develop drivers for Linux. That, in turn, explains why a lot of the hardware doesn't work with Lin

Message ID: 389167 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Munich Linux Migration Utter Failure Loons will keep lying as long as possible, and the Munich bozos will continue the cover-up, but mark my words on this 10th day of July, 2006: Munich Linux migration has failed badly. The only unknown is when the world will learn about it. This Yahoo! Microsoft Monopoly Good For You

Message ID: 389092 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Microsoft Monopoly Good For You Microsoft being a monopoly on the desktop actually benefts the consumer. When people make things, they need to make them only for Windows. There is a 'standard' environment for everyone to develop for and use. Things tend to work with each other well. (Anybody that tried to use Linux on the desktop knows how valuable this is, because Linux doesn't have it.) OS reasonably cheap despite the monopoly status. Office is costly, but people are writing whole books with Windows Word, and Excel is put to many advanced uses in corporations, and there are not many presentations without PowerPoint. Price follows function. For individual use, try cheaper programs like WordPerfect or Open Office. (Never pirate Microsoft Office or any other Microsoft software. Thank you.) So, if Microsoft screwed a competitor or two to attain that monopoly status, just remember that they are doing it all for you, the man o

IBM steals SCOX's IP

Message ID: 388992 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: IBM steals SCOX's IP This is what SCO is claiming in its case. I'm inclined to believe there is some truth to this for one reason and one reason only. As the case went to trial, an unknown paralegal opened up a web site that soon became a place to spread FUD about SCO. This person, Pamela Jones, used to be a Jehovah's Witness. Then, she worked in her son's company. Then, she wrote some recipes and put up a web site to host them, and an LLC company as the web site's owner. Then, she started writing about open source. This is some natural progress, huh? JW to working for your son's medical appliances company(?) to writing recipes to writing about open source software. There is something fishy here. She is likely an IBM agent. Why does IBM need agents if it is innocent of any wrong-doing? This Yahoo! Linux Loons close their eyes and ears

Message ID: 388968 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Linux Loons close their eyes and ears They are comparing notes on who has me on ignore. They have to close their eyes and ears and pretend not to know about the Munich troubles. One loser even suggested "PR stunt" as an explanation. These are all just defence mechanisms to protect themselves and to prevent their carefully constructed version of reality from being shattered. Linux is a piece of s**t. You can take this to bank. OMG! IBM is screwed

Message ID: 388963 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: OMG! IBM is screwed IBM tried hard, but couldn't get everything dismissed. SCO's outstanding claims are sure to land IBM in hot water. It can make it all go away by paying 5 billion dollars (only) to SCOX, and by apologizing to Darl McBride for all the trouble they gave him.  This Yahoo! Linux may violate 270+ patents

Message ID: 388939 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Linux may violate 270+ patents Linux may violate more than 270 patents, according to Open Source Risk Management Inc. USPTO grants far too many patents than it should, but even if Linux violates only a dozen patents, the risk to the users is still unmanageable and unacceptable. Switch to Windows. Windows doesn't violate any patents whatsoever. This Yahoo! SCOX Will Crush IBM in Courts

Message ID: 388933 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: SCOX WILL CRUSH IBM IN COURTS The Loons managed to post enough lies to push this out of view, but SCO still has plenty of undismissed claims. SCO will crush IBM in courts - IBM will have to pay five billion dollars if it wants to continue selling AIX. IBM is toast. Loons are too. This Yahoo! Loons already lying about Munich

Message ID: 388930 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Loons already lying about Munich http://www.osdir.com/Article8934.phtml This is supposed to be a rebuttal to Mr. Bill Hilf who said Linux is losing steam as server. "Let’s see, you mean it is losing steam because Massachusetts has banned Microsoft Office? ... Because Munich, Germany migrated over 12,000 desktops to Linux? ..." Notice the lie? Munich, Germany HAS NOT migrated anything to Linux yet. They appear to be in some trouble, considering this little tid bit of information: < Berlin's IT State Secretary Ulrich Freise explained in the Senate building that a manager in Munich had told him that migration to Linux had "failed in reality" there. > This Yahoo! What's up with Munich Linux Migration?

Message ID: 388868 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: What's up with Munich Linux Migration? http://www.heise.de/english/newsticker/news/74868 < The City of Munich's LiMux project center is rejecting charges by the Senate administration of Berlin that the migration to free software has gotten stuck before it ever got going. As Project director Peter Hofmann told heise online, "Open Source software at the workplace is a reality in Munich." > What the heck is he talking about? It's supposed to be migration to Linux desktop, not just 'open source software at the workplace'!  < Hofmann added that "most users" in the city's administration use individual Open Source programs to surf the net, write e-mails, or edit graphics, for example, "on the Microsoft Windows operating system, which remains dominant." > Windows operating system still remains dominant? Munich Linux Migration in trouble?

Message ID: 388785 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Munich Linux Migration in trouble? http://www.webwereld.nl/articles/41861/munich-linux-a-reality.html Don't let the heading mislead you. "However, two weeks ago a senior government IT official told the Senate that the migration had ground to a halt, citing an inside source." No smoke without a fire. Linux migration is completely fucked up. The Linux inside men, who orchestrated the whole idea of migration, will naturally lie like hell to cover up delays and failures. This Yahoo! P.S: I have seen some message headings that read "apologies to deepdistrust". I haven't read any of the messages, but the apologies are accepted. I'm not the kind of guy who holds a grudge. IBM *could* settle with SCO

Message ID: 388388 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: IBM *could* settle with SCO Loons claiming IBM will never settle need to be ignored. These are some of the same people who  1) have been claiming for the last 7 years that Linux desktop is as easy to use as Windows (Linux desktop continues to be a piece of s**t to this day). 2) have been claiming for the last 3 years that SCO will be laughed out of courts (SCO stayed in courts, 3 years and counting, and it still has more than a hundred instances of alleged violations by IBM undismissed). 3) have been claiming for a long, long time that open source programs are inherently more secure (There is an unending stream of security vulnerabilities discovered in open source programs daily). 4) have been claiming for long that open source programs tend to have better quality (With very few notable exceptions, open source programs quality is just too terrible for words). 5) have been claiming that Free Software doesn't hurt commercial softwar

Groklaw and Linux - both based on Lies

Message ID: 387788 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Groklaw and Linux - both based on Lies (It pays to post this message often. It's getting a little too righteous around here, these days. Bringing Loons down to earth is always a Good Thing.) Groklaw and Lamex, both claim to be founded on lofty principles, but once you pierce the facade, you will see lies, deception and ugliness. Groklaw's moderators claim to be running a community web site, but delete and hide messages, "cleanse" threads, freeze user IDs, and remove attributions - all based on some undisclosed criteria. Pamela Jones does publish a set of rules for participants, but the rules the moderators actually enforce are not the published ones. Groklaw moderators have been known to lock IDs of users who are merely suspected to be associated with the SCO group. In public, however, Pamela Jones claims SCO folks can participate on groklaw. Message ID: 386597 Posted By: deepdistrust Subject: Loons: Shut up about MS Word now http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/07/03/openoffice_security_bug_fix/ "OpenOffice.org has released a security update to its alternative office productivity suite following the discovery of three potentially serious security vulnerabilities during an internal audit." "The first of the three flaws means that Java applets can break out of a secure 'sandbox' in which they are designed to execute. Next up there's a security bug in the processing of macros which means macros might be invoked even when a user has disabled the function. Finally, flaws in the parsing of XML file formats mean that maliciously constructed files could be used to trigger a buffer overflow thereby potentially allowing a hacker to inject hostile code onto vulnerable systems. Users are able to disable Java applets as a workaround against the first flaw, but the other security bugs require patching." Now,
